McMurphy built their confidence by showing them how to stand up to real strangers and use their differences to their advantage. It also showed them what society was like compared to the last time they were out of the combine, because lots of things had changed in 30+ years. This trip also made them feel higher up in the chain at the ward, because none of the others had gotten off the ward before. They were also allowed to be around women besides just being with the nurses. This was the first woman that wasn't trying to hurt them in a long time.

  3. These events work together to help free the men from the forces of the combine by teaching the men how to work together. Each event- such as when they formed a basketball team, and when they went fishing together- teachs each individual man how working together to attempt a basket, or reel in a large fish, that you need help in life and you can't be secluded to yourself and your own troubles. It helps the men to realize that you need to work as a team to stick up for the things you want or the things you believe in. With this teamwork, you can overcome the "combine."

  4. The build up of these events work to free the men from the forces of the combine by giving them confidence to do stuff they normally weren't able to do, or didn't think they could do. The fishing trip helps them with social confidence and interaction with the outside world. The fishing trip also gets them out of their normal routine, schedule. McMurphy breaking the window gave them confidence against the nurse. By the men having confidence it's also giving them strength to do things that will rebel against the Nurse. What gives them strength is when McMurphy and the other men go into the store and McMurphy starts telling everyone they're psychopaths, so everyone will be feared by them. The other men have never had the feeling of being feared by everyone, which gives them that much more confidence and strength.

  5. With the build up of the most recent events from the past reading the men become a little more free from the combine. When something combats what their trying to they fight back in a way. For example once Mcmurphy gets the idea for a fishing field trip the nurse puts up info on how dangerous the ocean is so that the men wont want to go but Mcmurphy gets them all to go. While on the trip it breaks them out of their normal routine and helps them become a little more free. They begin to feel stronger and more powerful when Mcmurphy tells everyone in the gas station that they are crazy. The power that they felt from that helps to break them away from the combine.

  6. These events, or activities that the patients do help them become their own person. Like when the patients start a basketball team - it changes what they do everyday, and might help them more as a person. When McMurphy arranges a fishing trip it gets them out of the ward, and they are able to talk to people outside of the ward which gives them more confidence. They learned how fun it is to be outside.

  7. It works because it shows that everyone is on board and wants to do it. Like the nurse wanted to do it too. Not nurse ratched but the other nurse. Like all the patients want to do the trip so the nurse knows that she has no chance in stopping it. They might be tired of being inside and want something to do and make new memories. The people in the ward went on this trip maybe because it might bring back memories from when they were a child.

  8. Zach and Nate. These events helped free the men from the forces of the combine. In the beginning the events to against the schedule of the ward. After the nurse put up the news paper clippings, the men still had the confidence to go on the trip. This shows how they are growing and learning to stand up for themselves. Since it was the first time out of the ward in a long time it gave them a chance to see that it really isn't that scary. The men have a new view for themselves and the outside world and that is how the combine is losing its grip on them
